Chief Chet Epperson (Ret.)

Chief Chet Epperson is a law enforcement veteran with over thirty-four (34) years of active service. He served with the Rockford Illinois Police Department for 33 years and the last 9.5 years as chief. He serves as an expert police witness regarding police and correctional use of force, officer-involved shootings, training, tactics, and policy. Chief Epperson serves as an expert with two Federal Police Consent Decree Monitoring Teams with special emphasis on use of force, police shootings, training, and policy oversight.

Chief Epperson and AGR Police Practice Group provides robust professional policing services to a mix of criminal justice entities and communities. We are committed to excellence in our approach and delivery of our work.

Chief Epperson was instrumental in reforming the Rockford Police Department operations by enhancing its relationship with the community — providing internal and external transparency. Chief Epperson was involved in forming a multi-jurisdictional task force to investigate officer-involved police shootings, in-custody police deaths, serious uses of force.

A member of the International Association Chiefs of Police and Sub Chair for the Human & Civil Rights Hate Crimes Committee; Police Executive Research Forum; Illinois Association Chiefs of Police: Progressive Chiefs Association; Americans for Effective Law Enforcement.

Chief Epperson is a Certified Litigation Specialist for Police & Jail Standards through the Americans For Effective Law Enforcement and appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court as a Non-Lawyer Hearing Officer for the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission.

Chief Epperson holds a B.S. and MBA from Rockford University.
